On Brooks Road in the evenings, the three sisters would go out the front gate with their “yabu” (mother) Minnie/Goombun and sit around the fire under the lemon tree with their “ngagi” (their mother’s father) Duginyoh/Grandad Paddy and his next wife traditional way, NgadjonJii woman Grannie Maggie Calico, and the other old people.  The “nyalngga” (children) would sit and listen to the stories and stories and stories being told – sometimes of people and happenings, sometimes caution stories told to young ones, and sometimes of spirit stories.  Many nights “ngulmurru”, the girls would be “bira” scared walking the short distance back to the house!  Family now again own the land where the house was, and we can see exactly where that lemon tree was and how the surrounding area looks.  Yes, it gets pretty pitch dark “ngurugun” with only stars “girnyja” in the Milky Way “yalgay”, and sometimes those spirit fireflies “wugiyam” dancing around.
