This painting is of Grandma’s mum, Grannie Minnie/Goombun and her children – Moonyinoh/Barney (d1969) and Mahnjoh/Tom (d1982) and the three girls – Jimurroh/Mabel (d1981), Yahjunoh/Doreen and Lorna/Lola.  The oldest photo we have on record is from Brooks Road about 1920, showing my Grandma’s Grandad – our native title Apical Ancestor Duginyoh (English name Paddy), two young women “balgari” (grown woman) one with a baby, three children perhaps all boys under about 10 years, and Duginyoh’s daughter Goombun/Minnie with a “jaja” (baby) Mahnjoh/Tom and probably also Moonyinoh/Barney.  Goombun/Minnie looks not older than 30. The next photo we have of Grannie Minnie is from my Grandma and Grandad’s place at Silkwood, and Goombun/Minnie is aged over 60, respectuflly a “jambi” or older woman.  We have maybe two more photos of Minnie.  The handprints stand for the Ancestors watching over these “murraymba” Aboriginal people, and watching over the continuing generations now “janyja” and into the future and Dreamtime “bulurru”.  From just Minnie’s part of the family line I have 18 Aunts and Uncles (and my Mum), 40 immediate first cousins, and my children have at this stage 30 cousins.  Our line is just one of three Brooks’ family lines plus one more, so my cousins number over 200 persons!  It’s so important the stories about family and about country and culture being properly passed on (and pulled together!)
